Brian Greeves is a founding director of ACE. Brian principally brings operational, technical and safety expertise and experience related to aircraft and airport operations and activities. Brian has thirty eight years experience as a pilot and, prior to forming ACE, was a senior captain with Cathay Pacific Airways, which he joined in 1987. Brian has nearly 15,000 flying hours and has flown over thirty types of aircraft, including the L1011, the Boeing 747 classics and 400 series and most recently the Airbus A330-300, 340-300 and 340-600. Prior to joining Cathay Pacific, Brian flew for British Caledonian Airways.

In addition to his extensive flying experience, Brian brings a broader range of aviation related expertise to ACE. This ranges from the operation and design of aircraft and, the development of wind shear and turbulence warning systems to the development and implementation of flight data analysis programs (including assisting Airbus Industries) and line operation safety audits. Brian has extensive involvement in organizational and human resource aspects of the industry. This includes the design, development and deliver of training covering, in particular, safety and human factor related issues. In addition, Brian has considerable knowledge in airport and airside planning and development, most recently at Hong Kong International Airport. He is a regular speaker and author on these subjects.

In conjunction with his domain expertise, Brian has held important positions with international institutions in the industry. He was Vice Chairman and then Chairman of the International Federation of Airline Pilots Association (IFALPA) Aircraft and Design Operations Committee from 1990-2001. He is a member of the ICAO Low Level Windshear and Turbulence Study Group and a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers’ S-7 (aircraft handling characteristics) Committee. From 1993 – 2001, he served on the New Airport Safety Committee for HKIA and continues to serve on its Airside Operational and Safety Committee In 2003, he helped to establish the IFALPA Airport Liaison Representative program. Specifically with Cathay Pacific, Brian played key roles in Line Operational Safety Audit (LOSA), crew resource management, the flight data analysis program and the company’s Human Factor Steering Committee. Brian also has established a widespread network of relationships with aircraft and equipment suppliers, and educational and research institutions related to the aviation sector.

Brian has a BSc (Hons) in engineering from Exeter University and a Postgraduate Diploma (Distinction) in Management from the University of West England. In addition, he has completed the University of Southern California’s Air Safety Certificate program and has taken and taught courses at the University of Texas at Austin, relating to airport planning, engineering and management. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1968 and subsequently flew for a number of airlines, including appointments as chief pilot and UK TRE, prior to joining Cathay Pacific. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and Royal Geographical Society and a liveryman of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators and has been awarded the Guild’s Master Air Pilot’s Certificate. He is an accredited air accident investigator and a member of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators. He has received several major awards in recognition of his contribution to technical and safety issues in the aviation industry.

Brian is British, Irish and a Permanent Resident of Hong Kong. Aged 56 he is married with two sons and a dog. Brian has wide-ranging community interests, and enjoys hiking, cycling and swimming in his free time. He has travelled widely and has lived in many different parts of the world.
